Last week I went on a field trip to Stone Mills, Ontario to photograph the First Light Solar Farm. Stone Mills is just outside of Napanee which according to our tour guide, gets more annual sun than Miami, although, not obvious the day I was there. This impressive operation, built by SkyPower and SunEdison, is the first of its kind in Canada. I had no idea how humongous it would be. The solar farm covers 90 acres of land which is equivalent to 50 football fields and generates enough juice for about 1000 homes. Over the next 20 years this zero-emission system is estimated to prevent more than 152,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide, which is like taking more than 35,000 cars off the road! Tomorrow is Earth Day. Happy Earth Day everyone!
Look! Big!
