Victoria Lavender Farm Wedding

On my last visit to Victoria, B.C., I had the honour of working on this lavender farm wedding inspiration shoot. Barb of French Kiss Events and Vanessa of Verbena Floral Design came up with the concept behind this romantic, fall inspired wedding and Laura of Laura Lavender Calligraphy provided the beautiful, whimsical invitations.

On Monday our shoot was featured on Junebug Weddings.

When Barb told me that she had arranged for the shoot to be at a lavender farm, I was over the moon. Ever since seeing fields of purple in the south of France, I have had a fascination with this flower. As a child, I associated the smell of lavender with my grandmother, always buying her lavender scented hand lotions and sachets for her birthday. As I get older, I have grown to love the smell and find that this little purple flower factors heavily in many of my favourite perfumes and face treatments.

The Victoria Lavender Farm is a fantastic place. It is open most days to the public and I highly recommend a visit. In addition to gorgeous fields of purple happiness, the owner, Alan, has sheep, dogs, ducks, peacocks, and possibly more wonderful creatures. When we arrived at the farm, we spent quite a while having a tour and meeting all of the residents. The newest addition was a four day old lamb. She was not having a good day. Her twin had passed away the night before and when we arrived her mom had just been rescued after falling into the pond. Unfortunately, the whole ordeal was too much for her and within a short time of us arriving the mom went into shock and died. Vanessa cuddled the little lamb for the entire time we were there and fed her by bottle. What started as just a pretty shoot in a lavender field ended up being a lesson in the circle of life. A truly unforgettable day. Apparently the little lamb is doing well and Alan has his hands full with round the clock bottle feeds.

This shoot is so gorgeous. I really just clicked the link to see the 4 day old lamb (ohmygosh cute), but I stayed for all of the pretty. Beautiful work to all involved!
