On Tuesday, my last evening in Vancouver, I met up with Jackie and Warren at their favourite spot near Kitsilano Beach. These two love the beach almost as much as they love each other! I can’t wait for their wedding this July in Tofino on, you guessed it, the beach!
I may be doing this backwards, but it was only recently that I started second shooting weddings. I still haven’t done that many but here and there I have been known to help out a friend. I really enjoy second shooting. It is an entirely different beast. I look at it as a bit of a creative vacation. When you are not driving the bus you have more latitude to try new and experimental things. Sometimes they work and sometimes not so much, but you don’t know until you try. Either way, each time I do second shoot I feel inspired.
This past July I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to shoot a wedding on Pender Island. For those of you who are not familiar with Pender, it is a little island, part of B.C.’s Gulf Islands, in between Vancouver and Victoria. While growing up in Vancouver I had been to Pender and the other Gulf Islands a bunch of times but this was a whole new experience. I spent nearly a week hiking, kayaking, BBQing, swimming, and just generally hanging out with some of the coolest people I know and then got to shoot one of the most gorgeous weddings I have ever seen. Life is good!
